1. Data we may process

Depending on the nature of the contact or legal matter, we may process identification, contact, billing, professional, corporate, contractual, patrimonial and procedural information, as well as other information necessary for legal assessment or the provision of legal services. Where required by the matter, this may include special categories of personal data or data relating to judicial proceedings, always within the applicable legal and professional limits.

2. How we obtain data

Data may be provided directly by the data subject, the client or a person authorised to act on their behalf, including by email, form, videoconference, documents submitted for review or other professional channels. We may also receive data from public authorities, courts, counterparties, instructed professionals or lawfully accessible sources where necessary for the matter.

3. Purposes and legal bases

Data may be processed to respond to enquiries, assess potential matters, prepare and perform legal services, comply with legal and professional obligations, manage billing and records, establish or defend legal claims, protect systems and communications and comply with applicable obligations concerning the prevention of unlawful activity.

4. Professional secrecy and confidentiality

PCA’s activity is subject to professional duties of confidentiality and legal professional secrecy. Access to information is limited to what is necessary for the conduct of the matter and compliance with applicable legal and professional obligations.

5. Recipients and international coordination

Where a matter requires the involvement of other professionals, strictly necessary data may be shared with lawyers, law firms, experts, translators, technical providers, public authorities, courts or other recipients whose involvement is necessary and lawful. In international matters, PCA may coordinate work through Legal Advised and locally qualified professionals.

6. International transfers

Where coordination involves countries outside the European Economic Area, international transfers of personal data may occur. In such cases, the safeguards required by applicable law will be considered in light of the matter, jurisdiction and recipients involved.

7. Retention

Personal data is retained only for as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, compliance with legal, tax, professional and record-keeping obligations, and the establishment or defence of legal claims.

8. Security

Technical and organisational measures are used to reduce the risks of unauthorised access, loss, alteration or improper disclosure. No system is entirely free of risk, and measures are reviewed proportionately to the nature of the information processed.

9. Cookies and similar technologies

The website may use cookies that are strictly necessary for its operation and, where applicable, other cookies or similar technologies. Where required by law, non-essential cookies depend on prior consent.

Subject to applicable law, data subjects may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability, and may withdraw consent where consent is the legal basis for processing. These rights may be limited by legal obligations, professional secrecy, preservation of evidence or the establishment and defence of legal claims.

Data subjects also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Portuguese Data Protection Authority (CNPD).
